What You’ve Done

eerie forest

Just chilling on a lazy Sunday afternoon listening to some mellow dubstep and wanted to share this tune with you all.  It is a very emotional and icy cold remix by dubstep producer NumberNin6.  The original track was produced by William Fitzsimmons.

More Love

istimelinear

It’s been a hot minute since we last posted about Renaissance Man here at PnT and to say things have blown up for the duo this year would be an understatement. They’ve done some really incredible remix work in recent months and have just made another quality edit available through their Facebook fan page. This time the much raved about The XX remix of Florence & The Machine’s You’ve Got The Love is extended and peppered with some vocal chops in addition to being paced nicely for a longer dance with your boo.  No wonder it ended up 3rd in this month’s Grindin’ chart.

They’re sharing a full quality AIF if you want 54 MB of HQ Renaissance Man.  I’ve buffed her down to 320 for those of you who want easier storage.

Toronto = Funky

CN Tower From Bloor

In preparation for the second installment of their newly championed monthly at Toi Bar in Toronto, the Toronto Funky (Facebook | MySpace) crew (Freeza Chin, Plain English and Marcus Visionary) put together a mix of some of the freshest funky heaters both old and new.  To my knowledge this is the only night in the city dedicated to funky, so if you want to get your skank on be sure to reach their next jam on December 18th. I’m sad I missed the first one.  This mix has been burned and cranked in the car for days now.

Freeza Chin & Plain English – Toronto Funky Volume 1 (Tracklist after the jump)

If you’re wanting more where this came from, be sure to check out Freeza’s weekly show on Fusion Radio Wednesday night’s from 10-12.

Bonus: As a little extra, a wicked MJ Cole tune I was feeling all summer that Freeza dropped in the mix.  Garage don Zed Bias just kills it on the remix   here, sprucing things up just right with an unsuspecting intro, some mega-lazer build-ups and a low riding funk riddim that all sit beautifully under Serocee’s flow.

Instra:mental – Watching You

UncleSam_WatchingYou_750x900xxx

Here is a beautiful piece of music that I had to share with all of you. Instra:mental has really dug themselves into a nice little sub-genre in the past few years with their minimal approach to drum and bass music.  Al Bleek and Kid Drama are the highly acclaimed duo that have been testing the boundaries of drum and bass with a unique style that is unrestriced by tempo. Word on the street is that they are currently putting the finishing touches on a full length album that will be release in early 2010.  Recently, Instra:mental teamed up with fellow UK producer dBridge to create the Autonomic Podcast series that has been getting ‘rave’ reviews by drum and bass enthusiasts worldwide.  They also just had a release on the U.K label NonPlus+ Records that is just way too disgusting for words to describe:

Eyes on Fire (Dubstep Remixes)

Blue Foundation is a group of musicians originating from Denmark and they have recently gained a lot of popularity with their tune “Eyes on Fire” from the Twilight soundtrack.  I was originally put on to the Zeds Dead remix when our friends over at Salacious Sound featured the Toronto duo on their blog.  Instantly I fell in love with the remix and now recently they are getting some HUGE global recognition for the track as it was featured on Skream’s Nov.11th edition of his popular “Stella Sessions”.  Recently the track was remixed again by another up and coming Toronto dubstep producer Evidence.  Putting a more mellow spin on the tune, Evidence is able to preserve the atmospheric and eerie vibe of the original.  Check em out below.

Bangkok

sukumvit-bangkok

This steel drum infused take on Boris Dlugosch’s heavy hitting Bangkok is a perfect example of why Roska is one of London’s premiere funky house producers. If you’re feelin’ this, be sure to check his remix of Predator off the new Ghosts On Tape EP.

16Bit – The Tale Of The Exploding Fist

16bit

I can really appreciate when a producer has a very wide spectrum to their music. If you are putting out the same ’style’ or ’sound’ over and over things are bound to get stale. I don’t think I have ever come across someone who exemplifies this wide spectrum more than the U.K dubstep tandem, 16Bit.  These guys have been on fire lately and have just dropped their new release “The Tale of The Exploding Fist” on the U.K label Southside Dubstars.  Check out these two, completely different tunes from the release:

Bird Brain

Gettin' down like a 'gull

Claude VonStroke’s second full length is nothing short of a masterpiece.  Literally every single track (and remix) on the album is an innovative and completely unique contribution to the whole.  It seamlessly flows from beginning to end and reveals two things often forgotten by the party music massive: the importance of being whimsical in a way that is accessible to any listener and not taking yourself too seriously. Vocal Chords is the real stand out to me and was apparently a huge bitch to make… but wow… so worth it CVS (check the interviews below for more on that). Pieces of the album have been trickling out of dirtybird since Aundy dropped in June, but for full effect you’ll need to listen to it from start to finish.  Do yourself a favor and buy this, it’s worth more than it costs.

There are great two great interviews with the Bird Brain himself  available here and here.  To catch him live and direct, check him out in the city closest to you on any one of these dates coming up. Toronto gets him December 18th at the Mod Club Theatre for Arcade Fridays.  I’ll be there.

Sub Focus – Last Jungle

sub focus

Hailing from the U.K, Drum and Bass superstar Sub Focus has just dropped his debut, full length, self titled album on Andy C’s RAM Records.  Sub Focus has been known for some big Drum and Bass anthems like “X-Ray”, “Airplane” and “Time Warp” and more recently the smash hit “Rock It” which is featured on this LP.  The new album pushes the boundaries of Drum and Bass and even has a Dubstep track included.  I can’t get enough of the new tune “Last Jungle”.  Below you can check out my top picks from the new LP:

Round Table Knights

Bern, Switzerland’s Round Table Knights are back with another amazing remix, this time reworking Malente & Daniel Dexter’s massive Gypsy Kings into a long-rolling tech house treat. These guys have had a massive year with their accordion infused Belly Dance EP that dropped on Deadfish in September and their rogue groove take on Dubble Dutch’s Trollsta.

It’s crazy how much their sound has evolved in the last couple of years, as one my early favorites of theirs was this crazy Baltimore remix of Gala’s 1997 hit Freed From Desire which they aptly named Freak From Desire.

Be sure to check out their Autumn Mix for some next level house riddims.  There’s a tracklist  for you after the old jumperino.
