Mark Knight has just rode into town pumping some nasty new tracks that are nothing less than pure fire — the kind of heat that even makes the Devil leave the kitchen. The Toolroom don just squeezed out his latest Bullets Vol 1 EP earlier this month to much fanfare — and rightfully so. The two-song EP is short but incredibly sweet and dropped just in time to springboard pool-parties and summer shakers into overdrive. Devil Walking is a hard hitting dance floor blaster with a galloping 80’s feel that will put you in a hypnotic trance and your best dancing shoes in the fucking garbage.

Tonight marks a very special night for us at PnT. For starters, we’ve joined forces with our good pal Dirtyred in presenting the second installment of a wonderful new evening of house music called All You Can Beats (FB invite). It goes down at Tota Lounge located at 592 Queen St. West (northwest corner of Queen & Bathurst).
Additionally, it’s the public debut of Vaudeville Wax: a new disc spinning partnership comprised of myself (Mr. Mandelephant) and Dirtyred. DJs Sextone and Praktik Swayze will be warming the floor up for us and then we’ll shake things up to carry the night over to the incredible Toronto House veteran Alicia Hush! We’ve even got our good friend John Diamond the Bongo Monger to keep things on that extra tribal tip for this steamy May night!
Last but certainly not least, I’d like to share one of Alicia’s stunning new summer mixes. Summerboogiebustinout has a perfect summer flow, starting with Sascha Braemer’s spine tingling piano teaser Club Foot and also featuring the delicious Lauhaus and Boris Werner remix of Ray Okpara’s Rhodes infused Brainows, this mix is seductive from start to finish. Listen + GET!!!
It has been a hot minute since my last post, but I return with a couple of jazzy bits by Belgian tech house producer Rodriguez Jr. to get things moving again. Rodriguez packs a flavorful and energetic punch in his highly anticipated EP release Princess Guacamole which dropped on Mobilee Records just last week. Princess Guacamole displays Rodriguez’s tendency to create melodic tunes that catch one’s ear with jazzy hooks and percussive bass. While you are at it, have a sip of his Pina Colada – it’s fresh.

Preempting your Sunday morning hangover with a little stand up bass, cowbells and kiddie chants and also doubling as a serious fire starter, Vincent Thomas and Great Stuff Recordings deliver on this one. Heureka!

A cut off Tevo Howard’s Dreamer’s Reason Cafe released on his very own Beautiful Granville Records in late ‘09. Angelic style pads coupled with a gentle acid bass line strung together with little more than kicks, claps, rims hits and hats… it’s deep thinking hat music for the pondering detective.

In the world of exclusives this track is archaic, but those outside the funky brotherhood have been waiting on it for months. May 25th sees Dubbel Dutch’s second Palms Out release with his Throwback EP. Funking out the think break with some soulful vox chops and thick sine bass, this one promises to be a serious summer jam. Fingers twirling until next Tuesday!
As a bonus, here’s a equally excellent rework he did of Yollanda Be Cool’s Villalobos For President out on soon Sweat It Out! Records.
Been whistling and stomping along to this crazy edit ever since Lady Blacktronika (aka The First Lady Of Beatdown) graced the fine pages of RA this past March. It comes from her self-released September 2009 Kut, Slice, Kill EP which you can grab free from her disco extravaganza Lust 4 Dust.

We’ve got an exclusive PnT interview and mix from her to look forward to in the coming weeks, so stay tuned and be sure to show her some Facebook and MySpace love in the interim. PnT sees you Mt. Shasta!!!
It has been unleashed. The highly anticipated “Phaze One” EP [TEMPA049] from Benga! This one hits hard with a nice variety tunes that will give your bass face a serious fucking workout. Go grab the album on Beatport.
This tune has been floating around for awhile and even changed names a few times as it was dubbed “Jungle Bunny” the first time I heard it about about 6 months back.

Also really feeling this glitchy, rolling, beast of a tune.

It’s been a generally gray and dreary week out here in Toronto and it has seemingly kept us bit slow on the posts as of late. Apologies.
A couple tracks that have been getting heavy rotation on the car speaks as of late deviate quite a bit from our usual 120 BPM rhythm or 140 BPM bass. First out of the gate a really slow burning dub rework from the deep reaching Morgan Geist off Hot Toddy’s September ‘09 I Need Love. Complete with wacky synth/horn squelching, light keys, shingled squares and thick sub stabs.

Next up a re-chunk from the ever versatile Dixon who’s had me hooked on his Temporary Secretary EP after the astounding touches he put on Ewan Pearson’s amazing remix of the Junior Boys‘ Hazel. This edit sources Ben Klock’s In A While and Precious System’s The Voice From Planet Love.

The Bassmentality crew have just moved their bi-weekly dubstepathon to the uber-thick subs down at Toronto’s Wrongbar and asked us here at PnT to be their official bass blog aficionados! Woop!
The new night kicks of this evening with residents Zeds Dead and The Killabits whose heavy dubstep remixes have been featured extensively (ZD, KB) on Plugged Not Thugged this past year. Check the Facebook invite for all the specs and stay tuned for some PnT action at Bassmentality in the coming months!!!
