Total Tempest

I have totally relapsed and returned to my tech house and minimal addiction over the past month.  My addiction has been kicked back into high gear because I couldn’t help but dabble in heaters such as Ramon Tapia’s remix of Kaiser Souzai’s 2009 tune Hurry Caine.  While both the original and the Tapia’s remix kick ass, I really love how Ramon altered this tune by making it sound so eerie.  Through the addition of ambient sounds such as hollow drips and drops, the remix successfully took my imagination below the surface into a weird netherworld of never-ending dance.  Luckily, both tunes are available above ground on Germany’s Yellow Tail records.

Really Really Good 1

I see signs like this around town sometimes. Some people do need to be told, but we like to figure it out for ourselves here at PnT.

A little round up of some recent favorites…

Poland’s Pol_On (ha!) reworking this bit from Andreas Saag (whose Hyph Mngo remix is absolute bliss), pairing back the original’s vocal bits and sequenced analog in exchange for some thick sine wave subs and sexy strings under the drum bed. Out now on Freerange Records.

Andreas Saag – People Say (Pol_On Remix) ($)

Cevin Fisher gets tribal as fuck on this one with nods at the Incredible Bongo Band’s Apache… the Dominatrix lives on through your sweaty hips. Catch this beastly riddim on Defected.

Submission – Women Beat Their Men (Cevin’s Peak Hour Dub) ($)

Remerc sounding dirtybird weird but flowing more like what I picture Fred Flintstone’s drunk dance to look like. I can’t quite put my finger on what that voice reminds me of but it sounds so so caveman. Out now on Greelpound.

Remerc – Baptista ($)

“When it sounds nice play it twice”… pretty much the story for every Tensnake tune out there. Always inventive, deep and danceable, if you’re feeling this nugget be sure to check his take on Azari & III’s Reckless For Your Love.

Johnny Dynell – Jam Hot (Tensnake Remix) ($)

Longtime PnT favorite from Wolf + Lamb’s resident wolf and recently featured in Justin Martin’s FACT mix, the awkward but not awkward re-drop is the candy that keeps us coming back to this one time and time again. Part of the Significant Others 2 comp released on Wolf + Lamb in December. Night closing material.

Zev – Forget The World (Feat. Beckford) ($)

Corrected Three Times

Most of us are familiar with Dutch electronic music duo Mason, famous for 2007’s number one UK Dance Chart hit Exceeder and the mash up version starring the controversial Princess Superstar.  Well, the duo has recently produced another — albeit less — popular number called Corrected which has been remixed by some spicy electronic producers such as Riva Starr, Alex Gopher and Freaky Friday.  It’s been a minute since I received these little kernels in my electronic-mail inbox and it’s about time we got them poppin. Check out each of these tasty variations of the original and decide for yourself which has the most zest.  Freaky Friday for Diamonds…it’s got tang!

Young Circuit

I usually try my best to check some of the incoming music and promo material that is constantly flowing into my itty-bitty inbox.  To be honest, I usually fail miserably as evidenced by the fact that I have not yet posted a single jingle that was submitted via e-mail to the blog.  Well, today I got two sweltering stingers from newborn UK label BiZ Music and I have decided that these tunes just can’t be ignored.  Introducing Circuit, a young 18 year old baby-banger who pounds out HEAVY lazer-beam-screech-and-shock mega-monster electro zingers that will scare the life out of your grandmother.  This kind of music scrambles pace-makers people, so keep the elderly at a safe distance please.

Both tracks will be available on beatport, Juno and iTunes on 21/07/10.

Incoming Heat: New Exclusives

The PnT crew is really excited to announce that we have some amazing exclusive mixes coming our way from some of our favorite producers.  We just received an absolutely massive tech-house mix from our friends Curious George & The Agent (UK) as well as one from the First Lady of Beatdown — Lady Blacktronika (USA).  We also look forward to a promotional exclusive from our hometown turntable champion DJ TASC (CAN), which will be available for download here at Plugged Not Thugged before his new EP with rude boy Marcus Visionary (CAN) drops next month.

Curious George & The Agent sent us this really sweet bootleg of The XX’’s tune Crystallised.  This little nugget was featured in DJ MAG a few months back and I thought it would be a good idea to share this savory morsel and another little bonus before unleashing the new mix.  Make sure to chew one hundred times before swallowing kids!

Feeling You

I started this post after returning to TO following an absolutely mind blowing set from one Mr. Henrik Schwarz at this years Mutek Festival and then totally forgot about it. Certainly the highlight of my Saturday night if not my whole experience at the festival was this soulful rework of Omar & Stevie’s I’m Feeling You cranked through the Metropolis sound system. Tune has been around (and blogged) for a while, but looks like it just got a official release this past May. Incrediheat.

Tech With Trox

Minimal tech-house  producer Seth Troxler has been kicking the shit out of my ears for the past couple of days.  Originally from America’s tech-hub Detroit, Troxler has been living in  Berlin for the past couple of years producing shoulder shaking tech-tunage that keeps feet moving and brows sweatin’.  I have recently been bobbing to Each Step, a collaboration between Troxler and Switzerland’s techno-titan Deetron, released through Circus Company.  Deep synth bombs with scuttling high hats and vocal monotonicity create a desire for back alley chases and late night shakeups.  Also been loving Troxler’s collabo with Matthew Dear on Hurt, an aural street sweeper that keeps night clubbers poppin’ and dripping like cave-creeping stalagmites.  This music is out of this world.

Stacked Burners

Pupkulies & Rebecca is a fantastic group out of Berlin which produces experimental pop, tech-house and dub infused ear burners which give me goosebumps and keep my body and mind pure.  I just ran into this succulent remix of their ultra-catchy tune Burning Boats, by funky psych-house duo Masomenos out of Paris.  Beautiful female vocals, slow piano keystrokes and constant kicks make for a great Sunday afternoon tune that will sooth the soul and mind.  Too bad it is Monday.

The Killabits have been in the studio again and have sent us over some heavy artillery.  Our Toronto homies have been crazy busy with their Bassmentality bi-weekly @ Wrongbar which has built up to being one of the rowdiest and most energetic crowds in the city.  Be sure to catch them spinning alongside 16 Bit on July 21st @ Wrongbar!

This first tune has already hit 100,o00 views in its first month on Youtube and is a perfect example of that high energy party music that these dudes just love to make.
