Long time PnT pal and fellow Torontonian Dirtyred just passed along this nasty new mix of deep and bouncy tech tunes that he recently put together. Well dug and tightly laced, these are 91 minutes of knock you do not want miss. I’d never heard that Bamboo by Rainer Weichhold and was damn near knocked out of my seat when it came in. TAKE HOLD, he also damn near tore the roof of Augusta House at this past February’s Major Rager and is on point running the full house gamut with this mix as well.
Freeza Chin and Plain English just sent over the second installment of their Toronto Funky mixtape series. With 31 heaters of pure funky rhythm and bass and a track list sweatier than Betty’s tits, this one is not to be missed. In fact, we liked the last Toronto Funky mix / event so much that we just had to invite the duo out to play at the March 6th installment of our monthly Major Rager co-op. If you can’t wait that long (which you shouldn’t), be sure to check the next installment of their very own monthly at Toi Bar next Friday, February 26th.
Freeza Chin & Plain English – Toronto Funky Volume 2 (divshare / sendspace)
It seems that most blogs worth talking about these days have some sort of mix series going for ‘em, so to celebrate approximately one year in the blogosphere and the start of our mix series I present you PnTM-1: Mr. Mandelephant’s Sinister Nugget Mix. 70 minutes of sub infused house knockers mixed by yours truly using two Stanton STR8 150s, a DJM 800 and an SL1.
DJ Lowcash just sent over this FIRIN’ new exclusive mixtape for the Plugged Not Thugged crew. Had the pleasure of seeing this cat grace the decks last week in Toronto and the man has crazy energy and got the crowd moving with his upbeat style of dubstep. Lowcash is lucky enough to know some of the big dogs over in U.K and as such has a few unreleased treats to unleash in this mix. My personal fav is the last track “Rockstar” by Benga which I’m hoping we’ll see released some time this year. Enjoy!
Leighton from Keytars and Violins (a stellar blog I’ve just recently begun to follow regularly) just did a stupendous deep ‘n dark disco mix for the London music magazine Dummy. Don’t have a track list for you unfortunately… but great to vibe out to if like me you’re doing something repetitive at work today.
And finally a little last but not least bonus, another choice cut from Guns Don’t Kill People, Lazers Do:
Major Lazer – Jump Up (Feat. Leftside & Supahyp) (Direct)

I guess it doesn’t take long to start getting promo material in the mail once you start ”un blog”. I remember listening to piles and piles of demos and promo CDs spanning every imaginable genre when I was volunteering at CKUT back in Montreal and let me tell you the quality metrics were more or less as follows: 1 release in 10 was listenable and maybe 1 release in 20 was actually good. That’s taking a random sample of course… Given that I’m expecting a lot of spam to start filling the Plugged Not Thugged inboxes, this was a rather delightful early treat.
It seems Jaymo and Andy George’s Party Moda has spawned a record label: Moda.
Hitting the streets with a massive first release are The Requesters. The Requesters EP has subtracted that fidget widget heard everywhere and instead inserted a little poppin’ disco cheese into its beefy thunder rumpin’ dance smashers. We’ve got Pianobytes, a track from the EP, as well as their summer mixtape for you below.
The full release is available exclusively on Beatport at the moment. Fun!
Plugged Not Thugged presents a new dubstep mix from Evidence and myself. Some HUGE tunes dropped in this mix so check it out! It’s hot off the press having been recorded only a couple of hours ago, so I thought I’d throw it straight up on the blog. You can catch Evidence spinning at the Sukh Knight party Aug.8th @ Suba Lounge.

Here is a very recent set from the dynamic duo live @ FWD from June 7th, 2009.
Also, back in September of 2008 they played to an outdoor audience in Barcelona, Spain. MC LowQui is on the mic and the tunes are heavy. Ive been rinsing this mix for a couple months steady anticipating the slaughterhouse that will be Sunday night!
