Baba Black is Heavy

Baa-baa black sheep, have you any wool?  I am not sure about wool, but Baba Black — a dark tech house tag-team from Denmark — definitely has more than three bags full of heavy production coming your way.  Dj T.O.M and Dj BUDA, the two Danish masterminds behind Baba Black, chopped their first release — The Sheep EPin January on Palms Out and have tons of new banging artillery on the way.  My personal favorite is Dirty Sheep, check out this bad little chunklet along with a tight little mini-mix and two unreleased edits of tracks by Depeche Mode and Modeselektor.

All You Can Beats + Alicia Hush + Vaudeville Wax

Tonight marks a very special night for us at PnT. For starters, we’ve joined forces with our good pal Dirtyred in presenting the second installment of a wonderful new evening of house music called All You Can Beats (FB invite). It goes down at Tota Lounge located at 592 Queen St. West (northwest corner of Queen & Bathurst).

Additionally, it’s the public debut of  Vaudeville Wax: a new disc spinning partnership comprised of myself (Mr. Mandelephant) and Dirtyred. DJs Sextone and Praktik Swayze will be warming the floor up for us and then we’ll shake things up to carry the night over to the incredible Toronto House veteran Alicia Hush! We’ve even got our good friend John Diamond the Bongo Monger to keep things on that extra tribal tip for this steamy May night!

Last but certainly not least, I’d like to share one of Alicia’s stunning new summer mixes. Summerboogiebustinout has a perfect summer flow, starting with Sascha Braemer’s spine tingling piano teaser Club Foot and also featuring the delicious Lauhaus and Boris Werner remix of Ray Okpara’s Rhodes infused Brainows, this mix is seductive from start to finish. Listen + GET!!!

Greasy Nuggets

This Friday (April 23rd) the Plugged Not Thugged fam will be invading Suba Nightclub in Toronto for an evening of Greasy Nuggets (Facebook Event). We’ve got the talented Lucy ‘Lo From 84:85 headlining the night with support from myself, the Hotmess DJs as well as Billionaire, Ballistik and Dick Diamonds.

So Phisticated

I totally slept on getting this little nugget of a mix up… turns out the elephant spaceship traveling back from the moon was delayed a week and a half.

Toronto’s very own Lucie Tic recently dropped a mix to promote the Sophisticated monthly thrown at The Drake Hotel by her and the DMoney fam and it’s straight swagger from start to finish. Amazingly fresh spring warm-up right here, with every track flowing into the next in just the right way. In addition to showcasing Lucie’s impeccable skills as a selector, this mix reveals some bubbling Toronto talent with remixes from Alias, Egyptrixx and an incredible Bonjay cover of TV On Radio’s classic Staring At The Sun… Get this in your music machine for easy access, it’s a beauty. Also, be sure to stay tuned for the April edition of Sophisticated coming up on the 17th, it will feature the Toronto Night Slugs heavyweight Egyptrixx  for his The Only Way Up EP release party along with Cubic Zirconia (!?!) and Lucie Tic.

Barletta – Exclusive Plugged Not Thugged Minimix

We are excited to announce that Toronto’s DJ Barletta sent us a special little treat that he put together for the fans of Plugged Not Thugged.  To pump up the party monsters who are attending MAJOR RAGER #8 at Augusta House this coming Saturday, Barleezy—who is headlining the event—has assembled an Exclusive Plugged Not Thugged Minimix that is sure to get the Rager crowd amped for another mega-gnarly shaker in Kensington Market.  The minimix is nothing but pure fire, and gives fans a small taste of Barleezy’s new work which includes the likes of Toronto natives Paul D & Terror Tone, among others.  The track list is provided below, along with a link to the mix.

Deep. Bouncy.

Long time PnT pal and fellow Torontonian Dirtyred just passed along this nasty new mix of deep and bouncy tech tunes that he recently put together. Well dug and tightly laced, these are 91 minutes of knock you do not want miss. I’d never heard that Bamboo by Rainer Weichhold and was damn near knocked out of my seat when it came in. TAKE HOLD, he also damn near tore the roof of Augusta House at this past February’s Major Rager and is on point running the full house gamut with this mix as well.

Toronto Funky Volume 2

Freeza Chin and Plain English just sent over the second installment of their Toronto Funky mixtape series. With 31 heaters of pure funky rhythm and bass and a track list sweatier than Betty’s tits, this one is not to be missed. In fact, we liked the last Toronto Funky mix / event so much that we just had to invite the duo out to play at the March 6th installment of our monthly Major Rager co-op. If you can’t wait that long (which you shouldn’t), be sure to check the next installment of their very own monthly at Toi Bar next Friday, February 26th.

Exclusive Mix from DJ LOWCASH!!!!

pluggedxxxxxxxx

DJ Lowcash just sent over this FIRIN’ new exclusive mixtape for the Plugged Not Thugged crew.  Had the pleasure of seeing this cat grace the decks last week in Toronto and the man has crazy energy and got the crowd moving with his upbeat style of dubstep.  Lowcash is lucky enough to know some of the big dogs over in U.K and as such has a few unreleased treats to unleash in this mix.  My personal fav is the last track “Rockstar” by Benga which I’m hoping we’ll see released some time this year. Enjoy!

Keytars & Violins Mix

dummy

Leighton from Keytars and Violins (a stellar blog I’ve just recently begun to follow regularly) just did a stupendous deep ‘n dark disco mix for the London music magazine Dummy.  Don’t have a track list for you unfortunately… but great to vibe out to if like me you’re doing something repetitive at work today.
