Exclusive Mix from DJ LOWCASH!!!!

pluggedxxxxxxxx

DJ Lowcash just sent over this FIRIN’ new exclusive mixtape for the Plugged Not Thugged crew.  Had the pleasure of seeing this cat grace the decks last week in Toronto and the man has crazy energy and got the crowd moving with his upbeat style of dubstep.  Lowcash is lucky enough to know some of the big dogs over in U.K and as such has a few unreleased treats to unleash in this mix.  My personal fav is the last track “Rockstar” by Benga which I’m hoping we’ll see released some time this year. Enjoy!

Bass Music of 2009: A Year in Review…

DSC02462xxxxx2

Yesterday I was walking through a shopping mall and as I passed by the Parasuco store I was amazed as I heard Dubstep pounding out of the store speakers and into the mall concourse…. it occured to me at that point that there probably wasn’t a bigger hit in 2009 than the anthem “In For The Kill (Skream Remix)”.

Needless to say it was a big year for Dubstep as the genre exploded onto the world stage. Here in Toronto we were spoiled with headliner after headliner.  Promo companies like Embrace & 40 hz were busy bringing most of the biggest names in the game.

Dubstep has arrived in this fine city of ours and there is one promotion company that is absolutely TRAIL BLAZING their way through the end of 2009.  Embrace has gone ahead and booked some of the biggest dubstep dons in the game today and I am absolutely ecstatic for the next few months in Toronto!

Benga (Sept.18th @ Mod Club), Skream (Sept.27th @ Wrongbar), Martyn (Oct.4th @ Wrongbar), Rusko (Oct.9th @ Mod Club), Caspa (Nov.1st @ Wrongbar), Bassnectar (Nov.26th @ Wrongbar), Joker & Nomad (Nov.29th @ Wrongbar).

Ungh.  Better save up your pennies!

Here is an interesting pairing, Eve and Benga.  I love how Benga re-worked this tune with a very catchy and funky beat.

Eve – Me N My (Benga Remix)

And staying on the remix tip, here are a couple other smashers you should already know about:

Kyza – Go (Bar 9 Remix)

Dizzee Rascal & Armand Van Helden – Bonkers (Doorly Remix)

…and if that ‘aggressive’, ‘in your face’ style isn’t your cup of tea, then check out this amazing Burial Remix of Jamie Woon’s “Wayfaring Stranger”.  Very atmospheric and chilled the fuck out.  Love it.

Matty G

I’m not usually the resident dubstep advisor up in this piece, but I’ve recently stumbled across some  stellar tracks that I’d like to share with the Plugged Not Thugged familia.  Hailing from Santa Cruz, California, Matty G has got a few productions that will leave you dub tuckered if you’re not careful.  His latest release on Argon Records is a two track LP of step rockin’ fire.  The two tracks, Rock Like This and The Scratch The Bass are both fantastic and take more of a rhythmic approach to the genre as opposed to the clunk and drop tradition most dubstep tunes celebrate.  Finally, this cat was also responsible for that awesome West Coast Rocks mix from early last year that had a sick remix from Caspa too.

Evidence – Habitual Ritual / Sukh Knight

Toronto dubstep/drum n bass/electro producer Evidence is back with another MASSIVE tune “Habitual Ritual”.  In my opinion. his best dubstep creation so far.  This version of the tune is a Plugged Not Thugged exclusive  as we await its full release on Intelligenix in the fall.  You can catch Evidence spinning at one of the biggest dubstep shows of the summer: Sukh Knight Aug.8th @ Suba Lounge in Toronto.  Other local support includes  40 hz frontman Spyne (40 hz) and Sidenote (Sensoria.me). Evidence also sent us a couple other unreleased bits for you to sink your teeth into!

Deadmau5 & Kaskade – I Remember (Caspa Remix)

sbrjmp

Caspa is back with another sick remix.  This is one of those tunes you can really just chill the fuck out and vibe to, straight early mornin’ rinse out type shit.

Deadmau5 & Kaskade – I Remember (Caspa Remix)

Caspa is a huge name in the dubstep scene and is due for a stop in Toronto soon.  Lets keep our fingers crossed.

On that same chill out vibe, check this new stuff from Burial.  When it comes to that genre-bending type of sound, this is a perfect example.

Burial & Four Tet – Moth

If you don’t already know, Burial had remained anonymous until August 2008.  With rumours circulating in the UK media about who was behind the name he finally posted a picture on his myspace with a blog release saying “”I’m a lowkey person and I just want to make some tunes, nothing else.  Only 5 people know I make tunes.”  His critically acclaimed album “Untrue” is a beautiful collection of music and you should go buy it here.  My favourite drop on the album is one of those tunes you will just never get sick of.
