I have been listening to Finnish producer Bangkok Impact (aka Sami Liuski) for a couple of years now and I must say that this musical visionary has carved himself a solid spot in and amongst my favorites. Sami is in no way a newcomer to the scene, and has produced under a number of different names over the years, much like the artist we recently featured: Legowelt. He even cites ‘welt as an influence re: his own production style. I also noticed that Sami had not been releasing much material as Impact recently, so I decided to contact him and he generously agreed to do an exclusive PnT interview (coming soon). Hopefully it will shed some light on some of his newest work being released with friend Pauli Jylhänkangas under the moniker Putsch ‘79.
As Bangkok Impact, Sami brings together killer synth melodies, heavy bass and hot electro bounce to create an unorthodox style of disco infused house music. Give these juicy zingers a twirl… you will more than likely keep twirling.

I guess it doesn’t take long to start getting promo material in the mail once you start ”un blog”. I remember listening to piles and piles of demos and promo CDs spanning every imaginable genre when I was volunteering at CKUT back in Montreal and let me tell you the quality metrics were more or less as follows: 1 release in 10 was listenable and maybe 1 release in 20 was actually good. That’s taking a random sample of course… Given that I’m expecting a lot of spam to start filling the Plugged Not Thugged inboxes, this was a rather delightful early treat.
It seems Jaymo and Andy George’s Party Moda has spawned a record label: Moda.
Hitting the streets with a massive first release are The Requesters. The Requesters EP has subtracted that fidget widget heard everywhere and instead inserted a little poppin’ disco cheese into its beefy thunder rumpin’ dance smashers. We’ve got Pianobytes, a track from the EP, as well as their summer mixtape for you below.
The full release is available exclusively on Beatport at the moment. Fun!
Dance Area are Dirk Boogie and Mollono Van Bass. Throw friend Austin Boston into the mix with a grizzly synth line, a fierce bit of boom boom bap and plenty of snare hits and you get some serious duch thunder pop. Always Anytime 24/7 or AA247 is out now on Erol Alkan’s Phantasy label and you can cop it on Beatport. Solid efforts on the remix front from the likes of Noob, SkullJuice and Starkbot. As it turns out, you don’t need an expensive mic to record a catchy vocal hook; Austin spat his greece for this track into an iPhone. Wick!
