There has been a few different remixes of Massive Attack’s “Paradise Circus” floating around lately as their new album “Heligoland” has just dropped this month. I find that it’s these kind of tunes that are best suited for remixes (ie: what Skream did with La Roux). In this case, “Paradise Circus” is laced with some chilling vocals from Hope Sandoval. Here are a couple bass heavy remixes to check out.
The first is from the Toronto based Dubstep duo Zeds Dead and they are able to add that hype wobbly bass line to the mix.

The next one comes from the UK producer Breakage from the Digital Soundboy camp. This one has a more melodic churning bass line that will get your feet shufflin. I’ve been vibing out to this one for a couple weeks now.

If you think that Michael Jackson did a good job of getting crusty zombies to shake their less-than-nimble corpses, then you obviously have not yet heard Harvard Bass‘ remix of Seas of Grease by Zombie Nation. This minimalistic yet robust heart-thumper builds into a tsunami that will get you and your friends jacked and rattled on the dance floor…after all, it even packed enough punch to get my mangled carcass out of bed following an heavy banger of a Friday night. The remix was released in late January as part of Harvard’s Zombielicious Remixes Part 2, a 4-track compilation of Zombie Nation remixes put out by Turbo Recordings. DJs such as Crookers have been dropping Harvard Bass’ tracks in clubs everywhere to hot and heavy crowds that shake and pop harder then Orville Redenbacher’s own kernels. But who better to drop these massive tunes than the DJ/producer himself? Well, good news folks — Harvard Bass is booked to play at Toronto’s The Social with Wolfgang Gartner on March 13th. Let’s get Ravey.

When I first heard this tune on a Skream Stella Sesh about 8 months ago I was feeling it instantly. Then when I heard it dropped at the Skream n Benga show @ Wrongbar in Toronto (June 2009) I freaked the fuck out. After waiting impatiently for way too long, it finally got a digital release this month on Prolific Recordings. The original is a well known UK Garage classic so there are going to be enough pissed off punters who feel this should have never been remixed but you know how it goes; haters gonna hate. I think its another awesome remix from Nero who we finally get to see coming to Toronto on March 20th as part of the massive Embrace party “Digital Future”.

Hot off the press, some sick new shit from the Toronto based duo The Killabits. These guys are charging out of the gate so far in 2010 and their ‘Drop A Gem On Em’ remix is getting mad love around the local Toronto dubstep circuit. A month ago we dropped a few of their tunes and the post absolutely exploded in popularity. Sam (one half of Killabits) was telling me they have been on the grind, logging some serious hours in the studio. He also mentioned they have a bunch of original tracks on the way which I’m excited to check out. Check out their popular bi-weekly Bassmentality which they organize alongside their buddies Zeds Dead. These insane parties go down every other Wednesday at The Basement (751 Queen St. W).

I just reach back from a week in Jamrock so this one speaks loud and clear to me. Chasing Shadows brings forth another murderously vicious bass line that drops like a tidal wave of filth. FOR MAXIMUM EAR DRUM EXPOSURE, TURN THIS ONE THE FUCK UP.
Just chilling on a lazy Sunday afternoon listening to some mellow dubstep and wanted to share this tune with you all. It is a very emotional and icy cold remix by dubstep producer NumberNin6. The original track was produced by William Fitzsimmons.

Blue Foundation is a group of musicians originating from Denmark and they have recently gained a lot of popularity with their tune “Eyes on Fire” from the Twilight soundtrack. I was originally put on to the Zeds Dead remix when our friends over at Salacious Sound featured the Toronto duo on their blog. Instantly I fell in love with the remix and now recently they are getting some HUGE global recognition for the track as it was featured on Skream’s Nov.11th edition of his popular “Stella Sessions”. Recently the track was remixed again by another up and coming Toronto dubstep producer Evidence. Putting a more mellow spin on the tune, Evidence is able to preserve the atmospheric and eerie vibe of the original. Check em out below.

Giant is a new dubstep trio out of Russia and have been getting a lot of regular airplay from the likes of Rusko and many other huge dj’s. I first noticed these guys when I heard their tune “Rocker” and now they have recently finished a bootleg remix of the old Dire Straits song “Money For Nothing”. With tunes released on Dubpolice, Subway and now Hench, these young 20 year olds are really getting noticed. There’s a pretty cool interview with them over here at Big Up Magazine.

Dubstep has arrived in this fine city of ours and there is one promotion company that is absolutely TRAIL BLAZING their way through the end of 2009. Embrace has gone ahead and booked some of the biggest dubstep dons in the game today and I am absolutely ecstatic for the next few months in Toronto!
…and if that ‘aggressive’, ‘in your face’ style isn’t your cup of tea, then check out this amazing Burial Remix of Jamie Woon’s “Wayfaring Stranger”. Very atmospheric and chilled the fuck out. Love it.
